Occoquan Memorial Sprints
Occoquan Boat Club (OBC) welcomes you to the 2016 Occoquan Memorial Sprints regatta (OMS), to be held Sunday, July 10th on the beautiful Occoquan Reservoir at Sandy Run Park, Lorton, Virginia. Sandy Run Park is the home of the Virginia High School championships, with stake-boat starts, smooth water and a grandstand viewing area.
In 2015, OBC renamed the regatta to the Occoquan Memorial Sprints to ensure rowers of all levels are encouraged to register and to compete on our ideal waters.
The OMS schedule allows most competitors the opportunity to enter multiple events in a variety of boat classes.
The proceeds from OMS races benefit rowing high school students who apply for financial assistance under the “Julia Shew Memorial Rowing Scholarship” (JSMRS). Twelve high school rowing clubs call Sandy Run home and OBC is proud to have provided more than fifty scholarships totaling more than $17,890 since the inception of the regatta.
As in previous regattas we will have stake-boat starts and a grandstand viewing area at the finish line. The order of events is scheduled to allow rowers to compete in multiple events.
The deadline for regatta entries and waivers is July 4, 2016 (after which late fees will be added), when 70 races are created, or when the entry limit dictated by Sandy Run Park is reached, whichever comes first. Registration will close on July 8 at 11:59PM. There will be no last-minute adds.
The park limit is based on the number of boat trailers as well as the number of participants. We encourage you to sign up early.
After the final race at OMS, the club hosts a free ice cream social to participants and their guests.
