Occoquan Masters Sprints

OMS Medal

The third annual Occoquan Masters Sprints (OMS) was held on Sunday, July 10, 2011. Conditions were clear, calm and sunny, with a light tail wind toward the end of the morning.

A Masters-only sprint regatta, OMS provides a fully buoyed 6-lane course, stake-boat starts, and a grandstand viewing area at the finish line. The order of events is scheduled to allow rowers to compete in multiple events. All proceeds go to the Julia Shew Memorial Rowing Scholarship fund, which supports high school rowers. Last year OBC supported 16 student athletes representing 10 eligible schools, who were awarded scholarships of nearly $7,000.

Registration is through Ronin Racing.

The deadline for entries and waivers for the 2011 regatta was July 1, when 70 races were created, or when the entry limit dictated by Sandy Run Park was reached, whichever came first. The park limit is based on the number of boat trailers as well as the number of participants. Participants are encouraged to sign up early.

After the final race at OMS, the club hosts an ice cream social free of charge to participants and their visitors.

Please check back at this page for information about OMS 2012.
