Regattas & Camps

The Occoquan Reservoir’s mostly predictable currents and flatness provide excellent water for head races; in addition, a fully buoyed sprint course is up from the beginning of the spring season through mid July.

OBC hosts two regattas each year: the Occoquan Memorial Sprints (OMS) in July (formerly “Occoquan Masters Sprints”), and the Head of the Occoquan (HOTO) in late October or early November. OMS was renamed in 2015 to ensure rowers of all levels registered and felt welcome to do so.

Week-long summer sculling camps are offered by Jesse Clark. In addition, members gather on Wednesday evenings and Sunday mornings to do race pieces—sprint pieces in the summer, head pieces in the fall. These gatherings are informally coordinated rather than coached.

In late June and early July, Carol Dinion and Jesse Clark coach a competitive juniors sculling program, the OBC Junior Select. Dinion (McLean) and Jesse Clark (GMU & Madison).
