About OBC

OBC boathouse

OBC shells are housed in Sandy Run Park’s Boathouse One. The Occoquan Reservoir offers beautiful water, scenery, and wildlife including deer, beavers, bald eagles, herons, and wild turkeys. Upstream the river is navigable for about 9 miles. Just downstream from the boathouse is one of the finest 2000 meter racecourses on the east coast.

Sandy Run Park is operated by the Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority. Rowing out of Sandy Run are eight high schools, one university (George Mason), and two other clubs (Sandy Run Scullers and Northern Virginia Rowing Club).

The park opens at sunrise and closes at sunset. The park is closed in December and January.

Members should acquaint themselves with Sandy Run Park’s Rules and Procedures. Some of these include:

  • The main gate should be closed from sunrise-2 pm weekdays, and all day Saturday and Sunday.
  • No swimming is permitted in the reservoir.
  • Follow posted speed limits on Van Thompson Road and in the park.
